Founder

Primal Brewing Company LLC was started by Carl in 2018. It had been a goal of his to start a brewery with his best friend. His best friend suffered a traumatic loss, but Carl persevered and started Primal on his own. Naming the company in honor of his friend and their shared vision.

Primal has had several locations since 2018. Originally Carl opened in Baird, Texas, before moving to Brownwood, Texas to reach a larger customer base. Primal is now on its third location in Abilene since moving cities again in 2023.

Despite the moves, Carl’s vision has remained big and unwavering, “From the start, I’ve always wanted to provide a comfortable place for people to go. It’s a family atmosphere; kids are welcome, pets are welcome. I still want to operate my tap room but I want to get really big into distribution, be distributing all over the state of Texas and maybe some day outside the state. I’m just trying to build a foundation for my daughter to carry on if she wants to.”

Heart and Soul

Charlee is Carl’s daughter and “runs the show” at Primal. She can often be found playing, mixing it up with the regulars, or helping out in a variety of ways around the brewery.

Tech Support, Emergency Bartenders, and Operations/Finance Managers

In the midst of Primal Brewing Company’s most recent move to Treadaway Boulevard in Abilene, the Primal family grew in size! Adding dedicated individuals to manage high-level business operations and management while allowing Carl and Charlee to focus on what they do best - brewing delicious beer and providing a warm, welcoming atmosphere - will allow Primal to more quickly achieve their bold aspirations.
